Eucharist is key to evangelization in Asia, Cardinal Arinze says Print E-mail
MANILA (UCAN) -- Papal delegate Cardinal Francis Arinze opened the plenary assembly of Asian bishops today, stressing the Eucharist’s transforming power, and its role in building communion and solidarity among Church members and the people they live with.

It matters “a great deal for the life of the Church in Asia how the ineffable mystery of the Holy Eucharist is believed, celebrated and lived in this vast continent in which more than 60 percent of humanity lives,” the Nigerian cardinal said.

Rome (Agenzia Fides) – On May 11, the Superior Council of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) began their General Assembly, which is being held in the Salesianum's Congress Center in Rome (see Fides 8/5/2009). Cardinal Ivan Dias, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, began the assembly, with a welcoming address to the National Directors in which he invited them to reflect on the charism and spirit of the PMS.
