Franciscan Friar in Sydney Congress Print E-mail

The Archdiocese of Sydney headed by his Eminence George Cardinal Pell, is conducting an international congress for the evangelization of Australia. This congress also known as SCENE (Sydney Congress Embracing New Evangelization) is a follow up congress of the World Youth Day 2008 held in Sydney by His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI. It is an opportunity to keep going the enthusiasm for the faith of young people in Australia and in the whole Oceania. It will be held on 19th - 26th July 2009, at St Mary's Cathedral.

Prolific speakers delivering interesting and relevant topics for the youth of today will present their talks like Reincarnation and New Age and the Church's Teaching on them, Creation and Evolution, Reclaiming Masculinity, Ethics and Politics. Our very own Fr. Joseph Michael McShane is invited to give a talk on Our Lady and her Relevance to the young people of today.

What is SCENE?

Sydney Congress Embracing New Evangelization

SCENE is a Congress for the Catholic Church in Sydney and calls families, parishes, young people, catechists and teachers, priests and religious, communities and individuals to experience anew the call of the Gospel and to show forth the riches of Christ which have been given to the Church.

You are invited to be a delegate of the Congress -

- to take part in the Congress sessions in the Cathedral, which will include Morning Prayer, talks and testimonies on aspects of evangelisation, and the celebration of Holy Mass and Adoration.

- to be involved in "Christ in the City" evangelisation events during the afternoons and evenings during that week.

A Congress of the New Evangelisation is a coming together of people from all parts of the Catholic Church in order to focus upon the great movement which is happening in the Church in our era - that which John Paul II and Benedict XVI have called "the New Evangelisation" - a movement in which the Church is being renewed upon the basis of the great Commission which she received from her Lord and in finding new ways of proclaiming Christ.

SCENE will reflect the whole Church in Sydney, incorporating Parishes, Communities, Movements, together with speakers from home and abroad, and hosting a representation of the Community of St. John from France, the USA and England.
